God’s Masterpiece: Embrace Your Role in His Divine Plan

Whatever God does becomes a masterpiece. I love how John Ruskin put it: “When love and skill work together, expect a masterpiece.” And there’s no one more loving or skilled than our God.

One of my favorite scriptures, Ephesians 2:10 (NLT), says: “We are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things He planned for us long ago.”

Isn’t that incredible? Before you or I were born, God was thinking of us and already preparing good things for us to do, even in uncertain times!

Even in Darkness, God Has Good Plans

Jeremiah 29:11 echoes this assurance: “I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord, “plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.” God spoke these words to people in exile, facing fear and uncertainty. Yet, God promised hope and a future. The conditions were far from ideal, but His plans were still unfolding. Prayer and wholehearted pursuit of Him (Jeremiah 29:12–13) are the keys to walking in those plans—even today.

You Are Not “Just” Anything

So often, we discount ourselves: “I’m just a mom, just a nurse, just a teacher.” But in God’s eyes, there is no such thing as “just.” Each person is a vital part of His grand design. 1 Corinthians 12 teaches us that many parts make up the body of Christ. Each one is unique, positioned exactly where God wants. Your seemingly small role could be the hinge on which a kingdom purpose turns.

Hidden Heroes in Moses’ Story

Consider the women in Moses’ life—most were not leaders, not named until much later, some not at all. Yet their obedience changed history. His mother Jochebed hid him, defying Pharaoh’s deadly edict. The midwives Shiphrah and Puah risked everything to protect Hebrew infants. Pharaoh’s daughter acted with unexpected compassion. Moses’ sister Miriam showed courage and leadership. His wife Zipporah intervened to save his life. Each woman did her part, not knowing she was helping shape a deliverer of nations.

Your Role Is Unique and Crucial in His Design

What’s striking is how God used ordinary acts—hiding a baby, showing mercy, offering help—to build His masterpiece. These women didn’t understand the full picture, but God did. You, too, are part of His masterpiece. You may be nurturing a child, standing for truth, offering support, or simply showing up when it’s hard. Every act done in obedience is part of the larger picture God is painting.

My “Yes” Changed My Life

Years ago, when I was in graduate school, God asked me to get involved in a children’s ministry in a low-income neighborhood. I didn’t want to—I had no desire. But as I hesitantly said yes, God began to change my heart and redirect my life.

That one yes led to opportunities I never imagined—traveling the world, bringing the gospel and humanitarian aid to people in desperate need. Your yes could lead somewhere equally life changing.

What will He do with your yes?

You’re Invited Into His Masterpiece

God is still crafting His masterpiece today—and He’s inviting you to take your place in it. Whether it’s nurturing the vulnerable, interceding in prayer, leading with integrity, or serving behind the scenes, you are part of His plan. If you don’t yet see your role, ask Him. Keep doing the daily good works in front of you. As you look back, you’ll see how your thread weaves into His glorious design.

A Prayer and a Call

Let’s pray as Paul did in Colossians 1: May we be filled with the knowledge of God’s will, live lives that pleases Him, and be strengthened to joyfully carry out the good works He prepared for us.
