Love Always Protects

“4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking,it is not easily angered,it keeps no record of wrongs.6 Love does not delight in evilbut rejoices with the truth.7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.8 Love never fails.” I Cor. 13:4-8a NIV
God always protects us. The expanded meaning of the Greek word for protect includes to cover, conceal, ward off and place a roof over and shield. John 10:28 NIV declares, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand.” Our eternal future is protected.
God also protects us in the here and now. Psalm 46:1 assures us “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble”. And Proverbs 18:10 NIV tells us, “the name of the Lord is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.”
Jesus knew the world is full of danger and threat; and He wants us to have peace. So He encourages us in John 16:33b NIV, saying, “in this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
We will face difficulties, that is part of living in a fallen world. But God is our refuge, strength and help in the midst of it. He protects us now and into our future.
