Love Is Not Self-Seeking

“4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking,it is not easily angered,it keeps no record of wrongs.6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.8 Love never fails.” I Cor. 13:4-8a NIV
God always seeks the best for us. If He was self-seeking, He certainly would not have sent Jesus to die an excruciating death on the cross. He would have left us to suffer our just punishment. Luke 19:10 states, “the Son of Man came to seek and save the lost,” not to Lord His divinity over us.
The prophet Isaiah also foretells the mission of Jesus in Isaiah 61:1b-2a, “to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, 2 to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn.”
After He saves us, He continues working for our good. He seeks the best for us through both discipline and blessing. In Psalm 119:71 David explains, “It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees.” And Psalm 23 6 tells us that His goodness and love will follow us all our days, and we will dwell in the house of the Lord forever! He has your best interest at heart!
